Last night I watched some women's b-ball. Minnesota vs Duke. I had known Minnesota was pretty good and that they have one awesome player, Lindsay Whalen. Lindsay Whalen missed a few games towards the end of the season because she hurt her hand. I also knew that she was playing pretty well in the tourney. Little did I know that she has awesome support players on her team. So, I thought the game would be pretty interesting but with Duke winning. I mean look at the Duke Players, Alana Beard, Iciss Tillis, Monique Curry, Lindsay Harding and the list goes on. Each of these girls play real well and both Alana & Iciss wanted their senior year to end with a championship. They had the drive. Well, the game started off rocky for the Duke girls. Not once during the game did they lead, Minnesota started on a run and never gave up the lead. And everytime Duke looked like they would get the lead, Minnesota would hit a clutch shot. I was amazed at watching the Minnesota women's b-ball team. They are great. They did get help from the Duke players, many of them missed easy lay-ups and key foul shots. At the end of the game, I felt real bad for Alana & Iciss, showing their true emotions. I don't care what people think, crying is not a sissy emotion. Watch the women's tourney...great games are being played.

Women's Final Four
LSU vs Tennessee
Minnesota vs UConn

I know a lot of people want to see Tennessee & UConn in the final game, but look at Tennessee's last two games. They won in the last seconds and one of them by a controversial foul call. Are they really a great team. I do agree it would be great to see two storied basketball teams play each other for the national title, but I think it's an easy road for UConn. Hopefully, Minnesota will play great again and pull of another great upset. The women's team has made me a believer in the Gophers!

Go Gophers!

My pick:
Tennessee vs UConn
UConn to win it all.

On PTI today, Coach K was on during 5 good minutes and I have to admit, I started to like him a little bit. Mike W. asked Coach K does he feel that something is missing from the tournament in reference that there is no "marquee basketball player". Coach K wisely said no, he doesn't feel there is anything missing from the tournament. He feels that teams are better and pointed out that Illinois & Xavier the two teams he just played are very good. The teams may not have lottery picks but they definetely have all conference players. I'm tired hearing about that all the great players are going straight to the NBA. There are awesome players on many college basketball teams. If there are less great players why are there more people watching the ncaa tournament than nba games. I'm going to predict that the ncaa tournament final game will have more viewers than the nba championship series. How much fun is it to watch a tournament when there is a clear winner, i.e. the lakers. Right now, 3 out of the 4 final four teams definetely have a case to win the whole thing. Definetely a hell of a lot more interesting to watch.

Anyway...I liked Coach K for 5 good minutes!
Just got an e-mail from the people I bought my camera from. My camera has been shipped via UPS and I have a tracking number. Now, I get to have fun refreshing the UPS website to see where my camera is!
So, I've told everyone at work about being on the frontpage of Bucknell's website. 98% of people (one grouchy person does not think it's cool!) think that it is very cool!

Anyway, back to regular news. There is all this talk to re-seed the final four teams in the tournament. To have UConn play Duke in the Championship game. I think that is crap. I heard Jay Bilas last night and he said that when he played for Duke his team was definetely affected by there semi-final game which they eventually won. But, by them time they got to the championship game they were all tired and lost, which everyone thought they would win. Guess what, our kids are a hell of a lot more conditioned than Jay Bilas was when he played basketball. These kids practice, work out and play all year for this opportunity. I think if they were to re-seed the four teams, the #3 & #4 team lose out. Why should their opportunity be forfeited for the country to see what "basketball experts" feel the two best teams in the country. Isn't what is great about this tournament that anyone team can win. Leave the tourney as is...stop messing around with a product that is great.

Some personal news, I bought a camera. I got the same camera as Dolan & Albert. Actually they have Nikon Coolpix 3100 and I bought Nikon Coolpix 3200. Not much difference, except when I went to Pricegrabber.com the 3200 was cheaper than the 3100. Haven't figured out why yet. The biggest difference is the 3100 comes with 16MB compact flash memory whereas the 3200 has 14.5 MB internal memory. I bought my camera off of an ebay store, Cameta Camera. They have sold over 49,000 stuff on ebay alone. What is also cool is that they are located on Long Island (my former home), so I feel good supporting a Long Island business. Cameta Camera also offers great packages, so along with the camera, I got a 128MB memory card, rechargeable batteries and charger, USB reader, camera case and tripod. Got a great deal too! So, I'm very happy. Picture of camera is below.

Check it out, I'm famous. www.bucknell.edu.

The pic is about 3 - 4 years ago. Thanks to B. "Hizzle" Hepp for letting me know about the webpage.

Best reponse so far has been from a very good friend, Chris:

The worst things about being famous is that you know they are freshman or even worse high school students looking at that picture and think "Shit when was that taken? mid ninties? why don't they use newer pictures?" this is what happened when we had those late 80's, early 90's pictures on brochures and web pages back in the bucknell days.

Another response from my brother:
WOW

A response from a co-worker:
You should send an e-mail to the team with the web address to prove that you actually went to college.

So, Final Four is set.

Ok St vs GT
Duke vs UConn

My pick is Ok St vs UConn and UConn winning it all.

My motto is any team can win except Duke.

3.27.2004

Syracuse lost, it was a good game though. The better game of the day was St Joe's/Wake. I was rooting for Wake even though I hate the ACC. I don't know why i'm just not interested in St. Joe's, normally I would totally into them winning it all. Lately, I've been having issues with the media, everything is "over-mediazed". The issues that should be monopolizing the media are not even being picked up. So, since I've heard too much about St. Joe's, I just don't have any interest in them. Ironically I am interested in the Oklahoma St/St. Joe's game tonight.

I hope UConn men's beat Alabama tonight! I'm all for the Big East team to win.

I'm watching the UCSB/UConn women's game. Unbelievably UCSB is keeping up with UConn...making it a very interesting game. Earlier today I watched the Notre Dame (in the green jersey's) vs Penn State. Basically came down to the last 2 min and Penn State pulled out the win.

On a personal note, I'm getting my wisdome teeth taken out on April 2nd. It will be my first ever time going under, so I'm a little nervous. But, everyone has told me things will be all right.

3.25.2004

Tonight Syracuse vs Alabama. Go 'cuse!

Also, I think St. Joe's run will end today against Wake Forest. Yeah, the previous two games for Wake Forest were really close when they should've been blow outs, but I think Wake is on a mission.

Pitt/Oklahoma St game should be interesting. It will show how good Pitt's defense is.

Vandy/CT should also be interesting. If Okafor and Gordon are hot, Vandy will be in a lot of trouble.

Big East has 3 teams playing tonight, hopefully it will be 3-3 night for the Big East.

These next 3 days are going to be lots of fun! I almost said awesome, but didn't want to sound like Dick Vitale.

3.20.2004

I can't believe that Stanford & Gonzaga are out of the tournament, they didn't even make it to the Sweet Sixteen. Also, did not expect St. Joe's to beat Texas Tech.

Did expect Syracuse to win...but got a little scary there at the end. I don't know how they gave up a 16 point lead and Gerry McNamara missing a free throw.

Isn't college basketball great...love the surprises.
Syracuse vs Maryland at 5:40pm today. GO 'CUSE!

Lots of basketball to watch today...men's & women's.

Yesterday in between basektball games, I watched an awesome tennis match. Andy Roodick vs Tim Henman. 3 sets, 2 tie breaks and Henman upset Roddick. Very good break from basketball.

Pacific upsetting Providence...did not see them. UAB/Washington game, the highest scoring game this tournament? We will have to wait and see.

UCF/Pitt game, the lowest scoring game of this tournament? We will watch and see.

3.19.2004

final four picks:

work bracket: KY, WF, Duke, CT
Championship game: KY vs CT with KY winning

home bracket: KY, OK St, Duke, CT
Championship game: KY vs CT with CT winning

i had arizona and michingan state winning. watched a good air force/unc game last night.

i love this month!

3.18.2004

the madness has begun....florida upset by manhattan.

3.17.2004

Well, Lehigh lost. I watched the game at the gym while using the Elliptical. I was getting real mad at Lehigh for not rebounding and what was up with them taking all those three's. I clocked my fastest speed on the elliptical b/c i was getting so mad...71 mph.

I also read an article that Tony Kornheiser wrote yesterday in the Washington post. One particle statement made me pretty upset, "I bring this up because I'm looking for a real long shot to pull for in the NCAAs, and Lehigh, champion of the over-romanticized Patriot League (motto: "John Feinstein Slurps Us") fits the bill. " I am unsure as to why Tony feels that the Patriot League is over-romanticized. If anything, most people outside of the East Coast have not even heard of the Patriot League. Most people don't realize that before this year most schools in the Patriot League did not offer scholarships for atheletes. Atheletes gained admittance into the university's on their own accord. John Feinstein brought recognition to the atheletes of these universities, allowed the country to realize how hard it is to balance academics and athletics. Most kids that attend Patriot League instituions have dreams of making it into the big leagues of whatever sport they play but they also have heads on their shoulders and realize they must have a good education b/c they may not succeed in making it into the big leagues.

I know from watching PTI Tony doesn't care if kids stay in school or even go to college. He feels the kids are talented enough that why should they waste their time in college. I have this idea that maybe Tony will support. If we know that kids are just using college as a stepping stone to get into the big league of whatever sport, why don't we just set up minors for each sport, similiar to what baseball has. We can pay these kids and they prove that they are worthy of big leagues. This way the colleges do not have to worry about kids being academically eligible, exams similiar to Jim Harrick Jr's, cheating, phony majors and worrying that kids will leave early for the pros. Everyone is complaining that Colleges are becoming big businesses, well let's take the big money out of the colleges and just make a whole new business. If kids really want and education they can go to school and play athletics they can go. But if they are only interested in playing sports go to the minors and get paid.

3.16.2004

Tonight, Florida A & M vs Lehigh. ESPN @ 7pm. Do not miss!

Go Lehigh!

off topic...i've finally made an appointment to get my wisdom teeth pulled. April 2nd. Which works out well. Why you ask? Because the Men's Final Four is April 3rd & 5th and the Women's Final Four is April 4th & 6th! Hopefully, I won't be so knocked out that I can't enjoy the games.

3.14.2004

Men's #1 Seed

Kentucky - St Louis Regional - definetely deserved the #1 seed
Duke - Atlanta Regional - not really a surprise they are a #1 seed
Stanford - Phoenix Regional - again, not really a surprise
St. Joe's - East Rutherford Regional - this spot should've been a Big East game. I don't really care that St. Joe's was undefeated during the regular season...they played in an inferior conference. Mark my words, they will go down in the second round

Damn the men's selection committee for putting the Patriot Leage winners Lehigh in the play-in game.

wow...uconn women's didn't get a #1 seed in the big tournament. they got a #2 seed. Penn State got the #1 seed in the region UConn is in. But, UConn gets to play at home...the East Region is playing in CT. lucky kids.
Final Overall

Men's 16-31
Women's 23-31

Hopefully, I will do better in picking my picks for the Big Tournament.
Selection Sunday! My 2nd favorite day behind my birthday! Just Kidding! All League Championship games are completed and boy where there some awesome games. The ACC final game, Maryland vs Duke, an epic game. Very exciting...Duke thinking they have the game wrapped up, but little did they know that Maryland would tie the game in the last minute. And then Reddick missing the game winning shot...who would've thought that would happen. The game goes into OT. Can it get anymore exciting. And tears came to my eyes when the cameras panned to Gary Williams when it was a sure win and he had a smile on his face. Congratulations to this Maryland team for pulling off a very big upset...it is one remarkable team.

The Big East Championship game...how in the heck did CT win that game! They were down by as much as 19 points. I barely watched the first part of the second half, but boy did i start watching. Very awesome comeback. I really do feel that Pittsburgh should've won the Big East Crown...but defense wins games, which ironically is what Pitt is known for.

The Patriot League champs...Lehigh! I learned from ESPN that the Patriot League is the only conference that has not won a Tournament game. Will this streak end this year...one of the many reasons to watch the tournament.

The SEC Championship game wasn't that exciting...Kentucky basically kicked Florida's ass pretty bad. I think it would've been a better game if Miss St didn't lose earlier in the tournament. Oh well, we'll see both teams in the big dance.

3.13.2004

This is a late day post, lots of games today. Saw a very fun Michigan St/Wisconsin game. I was really rooting for MSU to win, even though they beat Bucknell in the pre-season. MSU played really poorly against Bucknell and Bucknell should've really won...but that's another point. I also watched the Maryland/NC State game. In the first half, Maryland really sucked. Could not get a shot to drop for the life of them...so I figured it was the end of that game. But, then when I switched back to that game, it turned out to be a really close game, Maryland was actually winning! Maryland ended up winning the game! Now they get to play Duke tomorrow. I was thinking it would be better for NC State to win b/c they will actually be a tough challenger for Duke...both times Maryland played Duke they got crushed, so I'm not expecting a very entertaining ACC Championship game.

Currently, I'm watching the Pac-10 Championship game. Washington vs Stanford. You figure Stanford would be playing real hard against Washington, since Washington broked their undefeated streak. But they are losing right now. I guess we will see how this game ends.

3.12.2004

Wow, St. Joseph's finally lost. Is it really a surprise? I don't really think so. Xavier finally figured out how to expose St. Joe's weakness, no real big man. Not all of St. Joe's wins were blow outs, there were some very lucky games when the shot fell. Unfortunately yesterday, both stars for St. Joe's had an off night. Teams live and die with the jumpshot. And St. Joe's died big time yesterday.

All this talk about them getting a number one seed. It was complete bull shit that they would get the #1 seed if they went undefeated. They did not play the same caliber teams as other teams. The A10 is not the strongest conference in the world. Yeah, it would've been awesome if they went undefeated into the tournament and that doesn't happen every year, so the thinking was that they deserve a #1 seed. But, I hardly thinking they would've gotten into the sweet 16. They aren't a great team...we just got caught up in the fact that they never lost. There were many teams in other conferences that went undefeated in their conference and it's b/c they do not play great teams. We all must realize the parity in college basketball. These smaller leagues can not compete with the big leagues...it's not a fair world.

No coference championship games today...most of them will be tomorrow. Won't it be an exciting day tomorrow!

3.11.2004

Watched a little basketball last night at the gym. Saw Notre Dame beat W. Virginia. It actually became a game in the 2nd half towards the end. The Big East tournament has finally started. Last year I was living in Syracuse and followed the Syracuse Basketball team...what a fun year! This year I'm down in DC, so I've been going to Georgetown games. Georgetown played Boston College yesterday in the Big East Tournament. Unfortunately they did not win...it may even be tough for them to get to NIT Tournament. oh well! I did see some awesome teams, Syracuse, Duke & Pitt. I don't care what people say about the ACC, saying it's the best basketball conference, the Big East is just as much fun to watch. It will be curious how the conferences will change after all the teams have moved.

ok, let's see how i did yesterday in regards to my picks.

Men's

Northeast -> Monmouth NJ (correct pick)
Big Sky -> Eastern Washington (incorrect pick)

Women's
Patriot -> Colgate (correct pick) sooo happy they beat American! The Colgate girls deserve to go dancing even though the beat Bucknell (my alma mater)!

Overall
Men's 11-14
Women's 11-16

Tonight Championship Games:

Men's - None
Women's - None

There are a bunch of Quarterfinal games in the Big East, and First Round games in the Big 12 & ACC.

3.10.2004

Didn't watch too many games last night. Just caught the first half of the Big East Women's Championship game. As predicted BC pretty much routed Rutgers. I was feeling a little under the weather last night hence not watching the other basketball games on tv. I hate being sick. For the longest time I kept getting chills and my body was all achy and I even took some medicine (I usually hate taking medicine) which helped, I guess. But, I woke up this morning feeling a little bit better. Took some more medicine and went into work.

ok, let's see how i did yesterday in regards to my picks.

Men's
Horizon -> Illinois (Chi) over Wisc. Milwaukee (incorrect pick)
Mid Con -> Valpo over IUPUI (correct pick)
Sun Belt -> LA Lafayette over New Orleans (correct pick)

Women's
Sun Belt -> Middle Tenn St (incorrect pick)
Mid Con -> Valpo (incorrect pick)
Big East -> BC over Rutgers (incorrect pick)

wow, i really sucked in picking the women's games.

Overall
Men's 10-12
Women's 10-15

Hopefully tonight I will do much better.
Tonight Championship Games:

Northeast (men's)

3.09.2004

i saw an amazing game last night on tv. purdue vs penn state. women's b-ball. the game went right down to the second. purdue held on to win which is an upset, but not such a huge upset. both the penn state & purdue basketball players are awesome and i expect them to go pretty far in the big tourney.

ok, let's see how i did yesterday in regards to my picks.

Mens

Atlantic Sun -> Central Florida (correct pick)
Big South -> Liberty (correct pick)
CAA -> VCU over George Mason (correct pick)
Ivy League -> Princeton * no tourney played in this conference, school w/ best record
MAAC -> Manhattan over Niagara (correct pick)
MVC -> Northern Iowa over SMS (Double OT!!) (incorrect pick)
Ohio Valley -> Murray State (correct pick)
Southern -> East Tennesse State
WCC -> Gonzaga over St. Mary's (correct)

so, i'm 8-9 so far in the men's

Womens

C-USA -> Houston (correct pick)
Horizon -> UW-Green Bay (correct pick)

Ohio Valley -> Austin Peay (correct pick)
Pac-10 -> Stanford (correct pick)
SEC -> Vanderbilt (correct pick)
Southern -> Chattanooga (correct pick)

so, i'm 10-12 for the women's

not too shabby, i must admit.

Tonight Championship Games:
Horizon League (men's)
Mid Continent (men's)
Sun Belt (men's & women's)
Big East (women's) - last night BC had an upset win over UConn, another amazing game. Unfortunately I did not see it. I've already got this prediction wrong. Tonight Rutgers vs BC, I think BC will win it.

3.08.2004

Went to the Patriot League Tournament this weekend. First off I want to let the basketball players of Bucknell University know that they did an amazing job in the tournament. They provided many fabolous basketball moments. Although, neither women's nor men's teams advanced to the championship game, so we will not see them in the Big Dance.

Moments from the tournament can be seen at Matt Albert's and Jason Dolan's websites. Look for the cheerleader pic, I was the lucky one who got to take the pic.

Basketball Picks...predicting who will win their conference championships.

Patriot League
Mens: Lehigh, even though they had a close game w/ Navy, watching them play against Bucknell proved why they were the #1 team in the Patriot League.
Womens: Colgate, the American girls are a bunch of thugs with the most annoying fans. If I see the "AU has HART" sign ever again, it will be guaranteed to be ripped up.

ACC
Mens: NC State...i pick anyone but Duke.
Womens: Duke...the women are cool, just don't like the men's team

Big East
Mens: Pitt
Womens: UConn

Big Ten
Mens: Illinois/Wisconsin - can't decide who will win. I'm going to go w/ Illinois. hard decision though.
Womens: Penn State - kelly mazzante is awesome!

Big 12
Mens: was surprised to see Oklahoma State the top team in this conference and Texas Tech #5. shows what a hard conference this is. last year, it was easy to see Kansas or Texas the Big 12 tournament, but this year, it looks like anyone can win. My pick is Oklahoma State. They were able to beat Texas twice in the regular season. The two teams they lost to were Texas Tech & Missouri. They should've won the Missouri game, only lost by one point. And they lost to Texas Tech early in the season...lot has changed since then.
Womens: Texas, lots of good teams in this conference, but ultimately i think Texas will win the tourney. K-State has a good chance as well.

C-USA
Mens: can you say logjam at the top of the conference. 5-way tie for first place, unbelievable. Since the tournament is being held in Cincinnati, I will choose Cincinnati.
Womens: Houston

Pac-10
Mens: Stanford
Womens: Stanford

SEC
Mens: Miss St or Kentucky...i think i'll choose Miss St
Womens: Vanderbilt

America East
Mens: Boston University
Womens: Maine

Atlantic Sun
Mens: Central Florida
Womens: David Lipscomb

A10
Mens: St. Josephs...i was a little uncertain, i really thought they wouldn't have a perfect record going into the tournament, but i've changed my mind.
Womens: George Washington

Big Sky
Mens: Weber St - pretty tight conference race, 4 teams w/ a .500 record. Eastern Washington maybe #1 in the conference but they are entering the tournament on a 2 game loss streak.
Womens: Montana - 14-0 in conference, they will dominate in the Big Sky Tournament.

Big South
Mens: Liberty
Womens: Liberty - another team that went 14-0 in conference!

Big West
Mens: Utah State - only TWO losses for the season, granted they didn't play the best teams in the country.
Womens: Santa Barbara

Colonial Athletic Association
Mens: Viginia Commonwealth
Womens: Old Dominion

Horizon
Mens: Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Womens: Wisonsin - Green Bay

Ivy - no league tourney
Mens: Princeton
Womens: Penn

Metro Atlantic
Mens: Manhattan
Womens: Marist

Mid-American
Mens: Western Michigan
Womens: Miami (Ohio)

Mid-Continent
Mens: Valpo
Womens: Western Illinois

MEAC
Mens: South Carolina St
Womens: Deleware St

Missouri Valley Conference
Mens: Southwest Missouri State (predicting an upset here)
Womens: Southwest Missouri State...yep, both the men & the women's are going to go dancing.

Mountain West
Mens: Air Force, they've been a surprise all season...definetely don't want to give up an opportunity to go to the Big Tourney
Womens: New Mexico, a tie for first w/ Utah but i have a feeling New Mexico will win it all

Northeast
Mens: Monmouth NJ
Womens: St. Francis (PA) another team to go undefeated in conference play!

Ohio Valley
Mens: Murray State
Womens: Austin Peay

Southern
Mens: East Tennessee State
Womens: Chattanooga

Southland
Mens: 3 way tie for first, i think i will choose Stephen F Austin, they finished 2nd
Womens: Northwestern St

SWAC
Mens: Miss Valley St
Womens: Jackson St

Sun Belt
Mens: LA Lafayette
Womens: South Alabama

West Coast
Mens: Gonzaga
Womens: Loyola Marymount
